Our Work Portfolio - 2023
Project Manager - Adam Flint

Adam worked in the outdoor industry for 19 years. Beginning as an outdoor instructor, becoming a senior guide in France, and then a Chief Instructor of an outdoor centre before setting up his own company, Progression Bikes, in Scotland, in 2011. The bike shop, guiding and coaching company became Trip Advisors No 1 activity in Dunkeld and surrounding areas.
As a result, facilitating the tourism strategy for the area went along side, and he still sits on the board of several charities aimed at developing cycling, active travel and environmental tourism.
The growth of trails in Tayside required a more holistic and standardised approach, leading to the creation of the Tayside Trails Association. Along with several other board members, he has been instrumental in co ordinating volunteers and working parties, liaising with land owners and advising on tourism developent strategies.
Since that first spade in the ground over ten years, ago Adam now has experience creating over 30 trails across the region, and more recently, helped to cement those skills with an IMBA recognised qualification in Trail Design and Construction.
Adam also has experience and qualifications in:
- LANTRA chainsaw work
- Resource management
- Civil engineering and surveying
2020 - 2022

Land Owner / Business Liason
Mountain Biking has become one of the worlds' fastest growing sports. Land owners are looking to capitalise and diversify, and existing businesses, such as accommodation providers are expanding their range of activities to include cycling, from electric hire bikes to purpose built trails for their guests. Flow State and sister company Progression Bikes work to provide the complete package

- NTT Bike Park, Agueda - Maintenance and Repair of jump lines and skills areas
- Geilo, Norway - Design and Planning

Network Development
Trail construction takes many forms. At the one end the bike parks are a multi million pound investment project, generating millions for the local economy. However at the other end, volunteers can still have huge positive effects for the community, and often require just as much work co-ordinating and planning trail construction.
Adam has been working on developing systems and procedures that allow standardised best practice, and training for volunteer groups for several years.
Experience building bike trails for a range of end users, settings and locations lends itself to imparting this knowledge and training to to others. This includes staff at resorts, ground crews and construction operators.
Training and Co-ordination

- Deuchry Hill Bike Park, Perthshire - Maintenance and Design of new extension
- Birnam Hill, Murthly Estate, Birnam - Design, build and Maintenance of 2 full length trails

Trail planning
Before the successful trail network and profitable business models comes planning, design, and consultation. Adam has spent the last ten years curating the relevant techniques for approaching new target markets, working with local materials, and supporting the existing infrastructure. This could be engaging with the local community, or reopening old walking trails.

In the beginning...
Every project has its own geology, topography, climate, ecosystems and vegitation. As a result, each and every site has to be resarched, and understood. From the South Cypriate limestone cliffs to wild and exposed Scottish Moorland. Therefore when discussing the concept, the market and then product, it has to work with nature, to ensure the end experience is unique, enjoyable and safe.
Notable Work
- Newtyle Hill, Dunkeld - Design and Build of Race spec Trails.
- Dalguise Mountain Bike Trails. Management of coaching trails, and staff development.
- Harlow Outdoors Bike Trails. Construction and operation.
